Credit Check Before You Apply for a Home Loan

Lenders look at your credit report before they approve a loan. Our credit check lets you see what they'll see first, so there are no surprises. Vikas obtains your report as your agent, reviews it, and explains in plain English how it affects which lenders and rates you can get.

  • $55 per applicant, paid securely by card
  • You'll need each applicant's driver's licence (front and back)
  • Sign the privacy consent on your phone or computer
  • Vikas calls you to go through the results, usually within 1–2 business days

Why check your credit before applying?

Every loan application adds an enquiry to your credit file, and several enquiries in a short time can make lenders cautious. Knowing your report first means we only apply to lenders likely to say yes. It also gives you time to fix errors — such as a default you've already paid or a card you closed years ago — before a lender sees them.

Australian credit reports use comprehensive credit reporting, which records your repayment history for the last two years as well as defaults and enquiries. Even one late payment can change which lenders will approve you, or the rate you're offered.

What we look at

  • Your credit score and how lenders are likely to treat it
  • Repayment history on existing loans and cards
  • Recent credit enquiries, including buy now pay later
  • Defaults, judgments or errors that need fixing
  • Which lenders on our panel suit your profile

Credit check questions

Does checking my credit report lower my score?

Checking your own credit report isn't an application for credit, so it isn't recorded as a credit enquiry by lenders. Applying for loans and cards is what adds enquiries.

How much does the credit check cost?

$55 per applicant, paid securely by card when you submit. Joint applicants each need their own check.

What do I need?

Each applicant's full name, date of birth, contact details, and a photo of the front and back of their current Australian driver's licence.

What happens after I submit?

Vikas obtains your report as your agent, reviews it, and calls you to explain what lenders will see and what, if anything, to fix before you apply.

General information only. A credit check isn't a loan application or approval. Lending criteria, fees and charges apply.
